By schedule, I mean lack thereof.

I have CP again today, which isn’t as bad as on the weekends because it’s only 1600-0700, but since I was trying to slowly get my sleep patterns back near nighttime, I should be falling asleep right about at 1600 today. I’ve been trying to sleep for the past two hours to get at least some rest, to no avail. I’m reaaallly tired but just can’t seem to drop off into dreamland.

Besides these weird overnight details I have every fourth day for the foreseeable future, I also have appointments around mid morning sometimes, and other random things–this morning I was told I had to go get a phase 1 physical done with no prior warning, though I was planning on sleeping then. Ugh. If I had nothing else going on I would simply regulate my sleep to about 0700 to 1500 on days I don’t have CP, with slightly less sleep happening on days that I do.

The lack of a regular schedule is doing more than mess with my sleep, it’s making me very tired all around and killing my motivation to get things done, like even writing e-mails to colleges or starting to sell my stuff on craigslist, let alone the extensive rehab program I’m supposed to do. When I’m not working I have little drive to do more than sit here and watch movies. It’ll probably last a couple days more before I kick myself in the ass and start getting shit done with the aid of lots of caffeine.

My unit is leaving for the big field training exercise before deployment: NTC in California, which is why we have so much duty now. My 1SG doubled the CP strength because all the druggies and other legal cases waiting to get kicked out of the army do a lot of breaking and entering during block leave and field exercises. It’s a common problem throughout the army. He said at his last unit they hid on the rooftops of the hooches in force and caught a bunch of the criminals that way. I can’t jump off any roofs, but I bring my ASP (collapsible baton) on CP in case I need to beat up a druggie or something.

My roommate in the barracks has been screwed twice. Once he had his small electronics stolen, like his Xbox 360 and laptop, and a few days later someone ripped his spoiler off his car and broke his side mirrors off with it. If I had seen either person (same person, maybe) in the act they would have been going to the MP station unconscious.

I find it somewhat interesting how much of an effect sleep, nutrition, and drugs can have on the body (caffeine being the drug I mean here). I get a lot more done in 12 hours when I’m well rested than I do in a 24 hour day without sleeping, caffeine or not. I also find I sleep easier and have a lot more energy during the day when I’m working out with good nutrition and no caffeine. Obvious, yes, but it’s not a small difference at all. It is a huge difference. Something to remember in college…

Caffeine is the devil. I only use it to keep myself going in extreme situations where I have no choice but to stay awake. I can’t wait until I can get back on a regular, productive schedule again… hopefully out of the freakin army. The higher ups are really pushing for us to get med boarded, for whatever reason, so I’ll bring that up when I talk to my surgeon next. Maybe it’ll help me get out in time for the fall semester.
